Auxerre's Benoit Pedretti is set to be on the sidelines for three weeks.
The midfielder left the field early during his side's last Ligue 1 clash with Lens with a pain in his thigh.
On Monday, Pedretti underwent an MRI scan that revealed he had strained a muscle and he will need around three weeks to fully recover.
On a positive note for coach Jean Fernandez, attacking midfielder Lionel Mathis has returned to fitness following a fractured leg.
Last weekend he featured for the reserves and is expected to resume first-team training in the next couple of days.
Mathis may even play a part in Auxerre's next Ligue 1 encounter at Le Mans on 1st April and step-in for Pedretti.
