Philippe Mexes has been hit with a six-game ban for his controversial transfer to Roma from Auxerre.

Mexes left the French club fuming when he moved clubs - insisting that he had a clause in his contract allowing the move.

Auxerre took their case to Fifa, demanding compensation, and asking for a ban for Mexes.

Fifa put off a suspension until they had got the full details of the case, but now want Mexes to sit out until April 3 when he will be allowed to play against Udinese if selected.

The France international has found his career in Italy so far blighted by controversy - and will be pleased to put the incident behind him.
