Monaco's progress to the last 16 of the Coupe de France may have come at a cost after star striker Radamel Falcao suffered a knee injury in the win over Monts d'Or Azergues.

The Colombian surprisingly started against the fourth-tier outfit, in a side otherwise much-changed from the weekend win over Toulouse, and he scored the first of Monaco's three goals in the 29th minute.

But he was then caught by a tackle from MDA defender Soner Ertek shortly before half-time, for which Monaco were perhaps unlucky not to be awarded a penalty.

Falcao did not return after the interval, Emmanuel Riviere taking his place.

A club statement after the match read: "Radamel Falcao took a blow to the left knee. We must await further tests in the coming days to determine the exact nature of the injury."

Riviere scored twice in the second half to wrap up a 3-0 win over the team captained by former Monaco favourite Ludovic Giuly.
