New AZ Alkmaar manager Gertjan Verbeek expects Sergio Romero to leave for an Italian club this summer.

Argentina keeper expected to leave AZ

New AZ Alkmaar manager Gertjan Verbeek has revealed that an agreement has been reached with an Italian club for the sale of Sergio Romero. Goalkeeper Romero, currently on international duty with Argentina at the World Cup, has been with AZ since 2007. He remains under contract for two more years but the club's financial situation means a number of players are likely to be let go this summer. Verbeek, who will take charge of the team for the new campaign following his recent appointment, is bracing himself for Romero's departure. And Verbeek has indicated that Romero could be set to ply his trade in Serie A from now on. "I won't name the club," he told Dutch television. "But the clubs have reached an agreement." "I don't expect Sergio will return to Alkmaar."
