Lyon jumped to the top of the Ligue 1 table as title rivals Bordeaux and Lille both suffered defeat.

Claude Puel's Lyon side moved from fifth spot to the summit after coming from behind to secure a 2-1 win away to Rennes.

The hosts took a 15th minute lead when Asamoah Gyan scored from close range after Jimmy Briand had struck the post.

Michel Bastos fired Lyon level on 53 minutes and the comeback was completed just past the hour mark when Lisandro Lopez headed home Ederson's cross.

Previous leaders Bordeaux followed up a UEFA Champions League defeat by Lyon with a surprise 2-1 home defeat by Nancy.

Youssouf Hadji had supplied Nancy with an 18th minute advantage before Fernando Cavenaghi finished from close range to draw Bordeaux level on 27 minutes.

Bordeaux's Carlos Henrique saw his effort strike the upright before half-time and Nancy snatched the points with 18 minutes to go through Issiar Dia.

Montpellier missed the chance to finish the day on top of the standings after being held to a 0-0 home draw by Monaco.

In a tight encounter, Monaco came closest to claiming a victory when Diego Perez's first-half effort struck the crossbar.

Lille are now three points adrift of Lyon after going down to a 1-0 reverse at mid-table Valenciennes.

Aurelien Chedjou struck the crossbar for Lille in the first half before Mamadou Samassa snaffled the points for Valenciennes with an 82nd minute winner.

Le Mans remain deep in relegation trouble after a 2-0 defeat at St Etienne, who have now pulled nine points clear of the drop zone.

Blaise Matuidi was denied by the crossbar five minutes into the second half for St Etienne and the opener arrived five minutes later through Cedric Varrault's header.

Yohan Benalouane headed home the second goal on 76 minutes, although St Etienne finished the game with 10 men after Kevin Mirallas was sent off.

Grenoble continue to prop up the table after letting an early lead slip in a 2-1 home defeat by Lorient.

Nassim Akrour headed Grenoble ahead after just three minutes, but Kevin Gameiro levelled for Lorient just past the half-hour mark.

Akrour was denied a second goal by the upright with 20 minutes to go before Lorient substitute James Fanchone struck the winner with five minutes left.

Nice and Sochaux appear to have very little left to play for in Ligue 1 this season and that was perhaps evident in a 0-0 draw.
