Jurica Vranjes has signed a three-year contract extension with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.
The Croatian international agreed the deal on Friday and will now stay at the club until at least 2011.
Ligue 1 side Monaco were believed to be keen on taking him to France in the summer, but any move now looks unlikely.
Vranjes joined Bremen in 2005 and has been a virtual ever present in their first-team squad ever since.
He has previously had spells at Bayer Leverkusen and Stuttgart after beginning his career with Osijek in his homeland.
Despite currently being out of favour with national team coach Slaven Bilic, he is also an experienced international with 22 caps to his name and made two appearances for his country at the 2002 World Cup.
