Monaco midfielder Lucas Bernardi faces four months out of action after undergoing knee surgery.

The Argentine had been suffering recurring pains in his knee during December and was diagnosed as having damaged his cruciate ligaments.

After seeking medical advice, Monaco opted to admit the player for surgery and Bernardi is now unlikely to return before the end of April.

The recovering Bernardi revealed he is particularly prone to ligament injuries.

"I underwent surgery after they snapped when I was 16 and they are now quite weak and recurrently painful," said Bernardi.

The loss of Bernardi comes as a blow to ASM coach Laurent Banide whose team are only three points above the drop zone in Ligue 1.
