Monaco midfielder Gerard will need six months to recover from his serious Achilles tendon injury.

The Spanish star received the painful blow during the Ligue 1 clash at Paris Saint Germain on Sunday and club doctor Philippe Kuentz has confirmed the worst fears of the Principality outfit.

"He did it absolutely all alone," said Kuentz in L'Equipe. "At first, he turned back to try to find an opponent to explain the great pain he suddenly felt.

"On Sunday night, he was much affected but he has already accepted the incident and has full trust in his surgeon.

"He is a professional and he knows that kind of injury can happen during a career."

Ramon Cugat will operate on Gerard in Barcelona, having worked on the player during his stint at Camp Nou.

Meanwhile, keeper Flavio Roma is slowly recovering from his groin problem.

The Monaco number one has been out of action since August and is unlikely to return before the end of November.
