Monaco are lining up a swoop for Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Lionel Scaloni.Monaco are lining up a swoop for Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Lionel Scaloni.
The Argentine is club captain at Depor, but currently finds himself out of boss Joaquin Caparros' first-team plans.
He has made only two starts this term and is behind the likes of Sergio, Julian De Guzman and Aldo Duscher in the fight for a midfield berth.
The 27-year-old is desperate for regular first-team football as he bids to push his claims for a place in Argentina's World Cup squad.
It appears he has now arrived at the conclusion that would best be achieved by moving on when the transfer window reopens in January and Monaco are leading the chase for his signature.
The Principality outfit are looking to strengthen following a mediocre start to the season and new boss Francesco Guidolin - who replaced Didier Deschamps earlier in the year - has requested a new defensive midfielder.
Scaloni has 18 months left on his contract at the Riazor and it is believed that Depor will demand around é¼4 million for his services.
That is a figure well within Monaco's reach, although they are likely to face competition from within Spain for the hard-working South American.
