Monaco kept up their chase of French league leaders Lyon with a 2-0 win over Paris Saint Germain on Sunday night.
Didier Deschamps' side are trying to keep on the coattails of leading duo Lyon and Lille, and knew that they desperately needed a win at Stade Louis II.
With Lyon's game postponed due to snow and Lille drawing with lowly Caen, Monaco had a chance to draw nearer to the top two, and they duly moved into third place with the win.
Mohamed Kallon gave the Principality side the lead in the 36th minute, when he volleyed home from Patrice Evra's cross to move to the top of the scoring charts in France with his 11th goal of the season.
Emmanuel Adebayor hit the frame of the goal with a header while Javier Saviola had a goal chalked off for offside as the hosts imposed themselves after the break.
Lucas Bernardi sealed the three points for Monaco when he made it 2-0 in the 56th minute, to see them leap over both Marseille and Auxerre in the table.
"It is never easy against Paris, who play a very defensive game. But we did well, we had good chances," said Deschamps, who sees his side now just two points behind Lille and six off the lead.
"Our duty is to win all our games since the top teams keep winning."
In Sunday's other game, Bocundji Ca was the hero for Nantes as he struck the winner against bottom side Istres with just seven minutes left to play to lift Les Canaris five points away from the drop zone.
