Monaco manager Didier Deschamps is determined to hang on to the club's top stars in the summer.

The Principality outfit - who lost to Porto in the UEFA Champions League final - are well aware their European success could attract interest in several of their squad.

However Deschamps - who himself has only just confirmed he is staying put - is desperate to make sure he does not see a summer exodus and is particularly keen to retain Ludovic Giuly.

The French international, who will miss out on Euro 2004 due to injury, is a transfer target for Barcelona after a fantastic season for his club.

"I absolutely want him (Giuly) to stay at Monaco. "stated Deschamps. "He is a player that would be difficult to replace considering what he represents and what he brings to the team.

"He is a priority because he has only one year left on his contract and he has attracted interest from a lot of people."

Monaco have also confirmed that they may well be in a position to offer Fernando Morientes a contract to stay in France.

The striker has spent the season on loan in France from Real Madrid and there are still doubts surrounding his future and Monaco are well prepared if he decides to move on in the summer.

"If we can't get Morientes back, we will find a replacement," insisted Deschamps.

"We have a list with very good players."
