Auxerre defender Yann Lachuer has said his club face a very difficult week which could shape the rest of their season.

The French side have had a bad start to the season, and lie nine points behind leaders Monaco.

In their Uefa Cup first leg match against Swiss minnows Neuchatel Xamax they only managed a 1-0 win, and travel to Switzerland on Wednesday hoping for the right result.

Lachuer told L'Equipe: "We are improving. The European cup is a different competition. The matches are special matches and you can't compare them with Championnat games.

"We are only one goal ahead which acts as our motivation."

After the Uefa cup Auxerre then face Monaco on Saturday. Lachuer said: "If our week is successful, it can change the rest of our season.

"If we can't get through to the next round in the Uefa Cup, it will be a big disappointment. But we will have to bounce back quickly as we are nine points behind Monaco and if we lose we will to far behind to catch up," said the Auxerre captain.
