RAFAEL MARQUEZ appears resigned to the fact that he is likely to stay with Monaco next term, despite attracting plenty of admirers with his performances in the World Cup.

The Mexican skipper was one of the best defenders on view in the Far East but blotted his copybook with a disgraceful challenge in his final game, which earned a red card, as his country bowed out to neighbours USA.

"I want to leave but, if it does not materialise, I won't be too disappointed because I still have time," said the 24-year-old, who still has four years left on his contract in the Principality.

Chairman Jean-Louis Campora revealed there have been no firm offers for the talented centre back, who has been linked with the likes of Lazio, Internazionale and Barcelona.

"I didn't receive any offer," stated Campora.

However, the chairman was more forthcoming on the situation regarding full back Eric Abidal.

"We made an offer to Lille but there is nothing new until now," he declared.

The 23-year-old is wanted by Lille and Nice but the ‚é¼3 million asking price is a major stumbling block.

Campora denied making any contact with Russian international Vladimir Beschatnykh, as Monaco already have five non-European Union players.
