Rennes sporting director Pierre Dreossi has confirmed that the club remain interested in Paris St Germain's out-of-favour forward Mevlut Erding.

Ligue 1 outfit ready to re-join the chase for Turkish forward

Rennes sporting director Pierre Dreossi has confirmed that the club remain interested in Paris St Germain's out-of-favour forward Mevlut Erding. The Turkey international has slipped down the pecking order at Parc des Princes following the summer arrival of big-money acquisitions. His future has been called into question on a regular basis, with the latest round of rumours suggesting a January departure is on the cards. Premier League outfit Newcastle are reported to be long-time admirers of Erding, while Espanyol and Fenerbahce have also been heavily linked with a New Year approach. Rennes are hoping they can convince the 24-year-old to remain in French football, but Dreossi admits the club may struggle to compete financially with some of his wealthier suitors.

Ambition

"We tried last summer, but we failed," he told RMC. "When it comes to him, we are loyal to our ambition and thinking and if there is another opportunity we wouldn't turn it down. "But, do we have the means to make it happen? I don't know. Would PSG want to let him leave? I don't know. "We haven't changed our opinion on the player, though, and if there is an opportunity, I will talk with the major shareholder and see if we can make something happen." Meanwhile, Rennes have handed a first professional contract to Academy graduate Dimitri Foulquier. The 18-year-old full-back is now tied to the Brittany-based side until 2015.
