Le Mans midfielder Yohann Hautcoeur has spoken of his desire to switch to Ligue 1 rivals St Etienne.
The defensive midfielder has become a target for Les Verts and has just one year left on his current deal.
With Le Mans only offering a one-year extension Hautcoeur now feels the time is right to pursue a new challenge with the ambitious Stade Geoffrey-Guichard outfit who have tabled a four-year deal.
"I want to leave for Les Verts, it is the best opportunity of my life," said Hautcoeur.
"With my agent, we met Le Mans officials, who only offered me a one-year extension.
"I have been playing for Le Mans for seven years, and to me St Etienne is an extraordinary opportunity."
However, the two clubs are yet to reach an agreement, with St Etienne looking to pay é¼1.5 million (£1.02 million) for the 24-year-old.
