Damien Perquis admits he is thankful to have finally completed his move to St Etienne.

The promising defender has signed a four-year contract with Les Verts after opting to quit Ligue 2 promotion winners Troyes.

Perquis played a key part in helping Troyes return to Ligue 1 but he has decided not to stick around for their campaign in the top flight.

The 21-year-old had been a target for St Etienne for the past 12 months and he acknowledged he was anxious to link up with Elie Baup's side.

"The first contacts with l'ASSE went back to last summer," said Perquis at his unveiling.

"It is a club which I have always liked.

"The leaders of St Etienne showed a lot of interest in me."
