ST ETIENNE skipper Lionel Potillon has spoken of his disappointment at his club's almost certain relegation this season and sadness that his last year at the club has ended in this fashion.

Les Verts are set to be relegated from le Championnat this term largely due to the seven point demotion they have suffered as a result of the "fake passport" scandal.

"It's a huge waste," Potillon bemoaned. "We thought we could have a good season, but things outside of our jurisdiction cost us dearly.

"Without the fake passports case we would never have been relegated.

"I am now at the end of my contract and I will leave. My heart is here, but I have to think of my career.

"Anyway, I would have left even if we had remained in the top-flight as the negotiations over a new contract with the club officials didn't get anywhere."
