Holders Lille crash out at last-16 stage

Defending champions Lille were knocked out of the Coupe de France at the last-16 stage as they went down 2-1 to Valenciennes on Wednesday night. But fellow Ligue 1 high-flyers Montpellier eased through and Lyon saw off Bordeaux after extra time. Two goals in eight second-half minutes saw Valenciennes past Les Dogues, who won the league and cup double last season. Mathieu Dossevi met Dusan Djuric's free-kick at the near post to open the scoring in the 70th minute and Rudy Mater set up Vincent Aboubakar to lash home the second via the underside of the crossbar. Nolan Roux headed home Gianni Bruno's cross with a minute remaining but it was too little, too late for Lille, though Franck Beria saw a stoppage-time lob cleared off the line by Rafael Schmitz.

Comeback

Lyon had to come from behind after Jussie gave Bordeaux a 23rd-minute lead, Alexandre Lacazette following in to equalise after Cedric Carrasso saved Ederson's effort (36). Lacazette twice went close to a second but extra time arrived - but Les Gones took the lead six minutes in when Bafetimbi Gomis finished from a narrow angle, and Jimmy Briand then rounded off a superb team move to make it 3-1 with two minutes remaining. Olivier Giroud and Younes Belhanda fired Montpellier to a 2-0 win at Ligue 2 Chateauroux and Gazelec Ajaccio beat fellow minnows Jeanne d'Arc by the same scoreline thanks to Nicolas Verdier's penalty and a second goal from Mickael Colloredo.
