St Etienne schemer David Hellebuyck has ended the uncertainty about his future by signing a new contract.

Hellebuyck's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the campaign and there were fears he would leave on a free transfer.

But the 25-year-old has pledged his future to St Etienne and penned an extension with Les Verts until 2007.

The playmaker has been a key figure for St Etienne since he joined the club in 2001.

Speculation had suggested that Hellebuyck was considering an exit from St Etienne and there were rumours of talks with Lille.

However, he has opted to spurn the interest from elsewhere to ink a fresh two-year deal at Stade Geoffrey-Guichard.
