SUNDERLAND could be back in for Monaco's exciting forward Nicolas Bonnal, in an attempt to pull off a treble French summer swoop.

The 24-year-old was linked a couple of months ago with a move to Stadium of Light or Rangers, after catching the eye with some impressive performances in the Principality.

Peter Reid has already plundered two French strikers during the close season - Cannes' David Bellion and Bordeaux hit-man Lilian Laslandes - and is tempted to move for a third in the shape of Bonnal.

After struggling to make the breakthrough at Stade Louis II, the Saint-Priest-born ace made his name with AC Ajaccio, where he performed regularly in the 1998/99 and 1999/2000 campaigns.

Last season, he played 19 times in Le Championnat but scored only once from a withdrawn role, playing more as an attacking midfielder rather than an out-and-out striker.
