Sochaux end interest in Edu

The Ligue 1 side were keen to add the industry of the American to their engine room, but Rangers have been determined to hold onto their man.

Sochaux had two bids rejected for the 24-year-old, the second of which was for only £900,000, which is less than half of the £2.6 million fee Rangers paid in 2008 to sign him from Toronto FC.

They have since turned their attentions to Udinese's Thierry Doubai, who they have snared on-loan until the end of the season.

Sochaux's assistant coach Stephane Gilli told STV: "We had two or three options but today we signed Thierry Doubai. We are very happy to have Doubai.

"Our first option was for Edu to come here. But we made two offers to Rangers and they said it wasn't enough.

Speculation

"We could not get a solution. I think the offer we made was the correct amount. I spoke to our president this morning and he told us our interest in Edu is finished."

Edu is well respected amongst his team-mates and his fellow Gers midfielder Steven Davis has urged the club to secure his long-term future.

"We would all like to see Mo tied down on a longer term contact rather than see speculation about him going," Davis told the Evening Times. "Hopefully the club can do that."
