New Sochaux coach Alain Perrin has confirmed that he is weighing up a bid for Karim Ziani.
The Lorient playmaker has enjoyed a fruitful campaign and many predict that he will make the step-up to Ligue 1 with a summer move to the top flight.
Former Portsmouth chief Perrin is eager to stamp his authority on the club and has earmarked Ziani as a possible new addition.
''Will we hire Karim Ziani? He's on our list,'' Perrin told L'Equipe.
''Next week we will take stock, we are taking everything into consideration.
''Indeed, Ziani is in a good position on the list.''
Meanwhile, Perrin has revealed that Sochaux chairman Jean-Claude Plessis was a major factor in his return to management, rejecting the likes of Toulouse, St Etienne and Auxerre in the process.
"I chose Sochaux, mainly because I have been convinced by the chairman Jean-Claude Plessis' insistence,'' he added.
''I have been in contact with Toulouse, St-Etienne and Auxerre. Indeed, I have a big motivation, I want to make a name for myself.
''If I had many propositions that means people estimate I have abilities.
''I will give a lot at Sochaux. I will be a little more than a simple coach.
''Those responsibilities attracted me.''
