Metz striker Jonathan Jager is expecting to complete a move to Sochaux during January's transfer window.
Jager is merely a bit-part player with Metz and has started just five fixtures in Le Championnat this season.
The 25-year-old has caught the eye of Sochaux, who are keen to bring in fresh firepower, particularly with Adel Chedli a possible departure to Metz.
Jager's prospects at Metz will have receded further following the arrival of Bruno Rodriguez from Lens and the forward is closing on a switch to Sochaux.
He admits his appearance in the Coupe de France against Monaco on Sunday could be his final outing for Metz.
"I don't know if I played my last match for Metz on Sunday," Jager told L'Equipe.
"It is true there are talks with Sochaux. They are on the right path but nothing has been settled yet.
"Perhaps it will be in the next few days or maybe a little later.
"As the press stated on Sunday, I will leave. I wanted to give my best to the team but I was not really outstanding, it was difficult."
