Midfielder happy to play his pary when required

Stephane Dalmat admits he had opportunities to leave Rennes over the summer, but is happy being part of an improving squad. The 32-year-old midfielder has slipped down the pecking order of late and is often forced to make do with a place on the bench. He has no complaints about his situation, though, and is happy to play any role asked of him. He insists he never considered accepting any of the offers that were put to him during the transfer window, with it his opinion that Rennes are a club heading in the right direction. "I have accepted that I will be a substitute a lot. I knew that would be the case," Dalmat told L'Equipe.

"I am working hard and trying to help out in the matches I play. I am looking to help the young players in my position. "I could have left Rennes this summer but I didn't want to despite having a number of options. "Even if I am not a regular, the club have not asked me to leave. "I think we can do well in the Championnat this season. If we don't get many injuries, why can't we do better than last season (a sixth-place finish)? "We have an impressive team and it will be good fun watching these players playing together."
