Aston Villa manager Alex McLeish has admitted his squad is too thin to even let any of his fringe players leave before the transfer deadline.
Skysports.com revealed earlier this week that Villa had rejected a loan offer from Olympiakos for Jean Makoun, while fellow midfielder Barry Bannan has been the subject of an enquiry from Blackpool.
McLeish does not want to run the risk of letting a single player go at this stage of the summer, with less than a week remaining to bring in a replacement.
"Ian Holloway asked me about Bannan a couple of months ago and I said 'no'. I was assessing the squad and we're too thin really to let anybody go," McLeish said in the Express & Star.
"That goes for Jean Makoun too because, if Jean went, the clock is ticking down and I don't know if I could bring somebody else in.
"It would be dangerous to lose some experienced players."
