Rennes are keeping tabs on Esbjerg's Danish midfielder Niki Zimling.
The 21-year-old has been watched by coach Pierre Dreossi (pictured) on a number of occasions and is seen as a star of the future.
Zimling could move to France on a long-term deal as early as the the January transfer window.
"He has a very interesting potential," Dreossi told Ouest-France.
"We are following him very closely."
Meanwhile, France Under-21 international Arnold Mvuemba is to be loaned out to gain important first-team experience.
Dreossi said: "He needs to play more, so he will join a Ligue 2 or maybe Ligue 1 side."
