Ligue 1 side Rennes are looking to hold onto their best players after sustaining a bid for a European place.

The Brittany outfit have had an impressive season to date, and remain just two points off fifth placed Auxerre.

Several players have attracted interest, most notably Le Championnat's top scorer Alexander Frei who has struck 14 league goals so far this campaign.

Frei (pictured) is currently under contract until 2006, although the club have opened up talks with their star Swiss hit-man already in a bid to secure his future.

Contract negotiations are also ongoing with fellow forward Toifilou Maoulida as the 25-year-old sees his deal expire in the summer.

Maoulida has been heavily linked with a move back to his previous club Metz, although Rennes will be keen to prevent such an eventuality.

General manager Pierre Dreossi also revealed that the club are looking to tie Swedish international midfielder Kim Kallstrom to the club beyond 2007, although Olivier Sorlin looks likely to join Monaco in the summer.
