Rennes striker Alexander Frei is hoping to make a return to Switzerland with Basel after struggling to get regular action in France.
The Swiss international has played just three times this season as the arrival of new coach Laszlo Boloni has stunted his chances of first team action.
Frei scored for his country in their 2-0 win over Republic of Ireland that confirmed Switzerland's place in Euro 2004.
The game was played in Basel and Frei confirmed that he hopes to make a return to his homeland with Christian Gross' side.
"I hope Basel coach Christian Gross watched the encounter," said Frei.
The 24-year-old is frustrated with his lack of action in France and realises that he needs to be playing regularly to make sure he keeps his place in the national side for next summer's finals in Portugal.
