Marseille striker Jordan Ayew is likely to remain in France after the club indicated they would not let the player leave on a season-long loan deal.

Reading and fellow Ligue 1 club Brest were both understood to be tracking the 20-year-old striker, who is the son of former Ghana International skipper Abedi Pele.

Ayew joined Marseille as a trainee in 2006 and broke into the first XI last season, scoring seven goals in 34 appearances for the club.

However, the player is not thought to be in the plans of new L'OM boss Elie Baup and Ayew is understood to want to move onto pastures new.

Royals boss Brian McDermott is a known admirer of Ayew, who possesses power and pace, which he feels would fit in nicely in the Premier League.

However, with the Berkshire side keen on bringing Ayew to the Madejski Stadium on a season-long loan, Marseille were hoping for a more permanent deal, which is unlikely to happen.
