Fulham manager Martin Jol has played down reports linking the club with a move for Catania striker Maxi Lopez.
The Sicilian side's sporting director Pietro Lo Monaco revealed the Cottagers interest this week, much to Jol's surprise.
The Dutch boss says Fulham never planned to buy the Argentinian forward.

"They say there is no smoke without fire but our intention was never to buy Maxi Lopez," said Jol.
"We have got an interest in good players but in a different sort of scenario."
Jol also cooled talk of interest in Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac after the club's sporting director Jose Anigo reportedly said on Friday Fulham were still interested in his signature.
"He didn't play over the last couple of weeks and won't be involved over the next week or so," added the manager.
"He is not fit. I know a lot of good players that did not play for their teams over the last three or four months and I am not interested.
"If you play in the Premier League, you have to be there [fit and ready].
"If you take a player from a lower league who is playing games and scoring goals it is probably better than to take somebody who is not fit and probably have to wait four weeks for fitness.
"For me, it is only an issue if they would add something to my team."
Jol insists he is ignoring transfer speculation surrounding the club in favour of focusing on Saturday's FA Cup third-round tie against Charlton.

"I don't want to speculate like most of you guys about transfers going in and out," he said. "We will see what happens.
"In England when you play against a team in the lower leagues it could be difficult if you let them play, with all their enthusiasm, attitude and approach.
"For them it is an important game and we want to go through to the next round of the FA Cup.
"It will be a difficult game for us."
