Paris St Germain moved level on points at the top of Ligue 1 with victory at Sochaux as leaders Montpellier suffered a surprise defeat at Valenciennes.

Kevin Gameiro's goal after 20 minutes was enough to secure Paris St Germain a 1-0 win at Sochaux to help lift some of the pressure on coach Antoine Kombouare.

Montpellier, meanwhile, crashed to a 1-0 defeat on their travels after Foued Kadir's goal in the opening minute of the second half earned lowly Valenciennes the points.

Daniel Niculae scored an equaliser deep into stoppage-time as second-bottom Nancy drew 2-2 at home with bottom-of-the-table Ajaccio.

Djamel Bakar had given Nancy a 10th minute lead, but Andre Luiz's own goal drew the visitors level and Ilan then struck the post for Ajaccio.

Johan Cavalli's 73rd minute goal appeared set to give Ajaccio only a second Ligue 1 win of the season, but Niculae pounced in the third minute of injury-time to salvage a point for Nancy.

Marseille are 11 points off the leaders after being held to a frustrating 0-0 draw at home by Bordeaux.

Rennes missed out on the chance to significantly close the gap at the top after being held to a 1-1 draw at home by Brest.

Eden Ben Basat hit the bar for Brest after 15 minutes, but the visitors were in front two minutes later when Nolan Roux struck after Bruno Grougi had also been denied by the woodwork.

However, Romain Danze's goal on the half-hour mark drew Rennes level and the hosts were unable to find a winner.

Toulouse kept themselves in with a chance at the top end of the standings after a last-gasp 2-1 victory at home over mid-table Evian.

Moussa Sissoko's 25th minute goal for Toulouse had been cancelled out by Daniel Wass' 50th minute effort, but Umut Bulut conjured up a last-minute winner for the home side.

St Etienne are nine points adrift of the leaders after a 2-0 home win over Caen, who finished the game with 10 men.

Banel Nicolita broke the deadlock on 10 minutes and, after Caen's Livio Nabab had been sent off just before half-time, Bakary Sako made the game safe with 16 minutes to go.
