Marseille assistant manager Guy Stephan is hoping Andre-Pierre Gignac will soon be in contention for a first-team recall.

He has also offered an update on Stephan Mbia's rehabilitation, with the midfielder still sidelined at present.

Gignac has been suffering with abdominal pain and has been out of action since September.

He has, however, returned to light training and is set to step up his fitness programme in the next couple of weeks.

Cautious

"Gignac? The pain has started to disappear," Stephan told L'Equipe.

"But we must remain cautious. He will need about 10 days of full training sessions before he can re-join the group for a match."

While Gignac is edging closer to full fitness, Cameroon international Mbia is still nursing a broken foot and is not expected to back on the training pitch before the end of October.

Stephan added: "Mbia? I hope he will be able to participate in a training session by the end of this month."
