L'OM boss insists team have a chance against United

Marseille head coach Didier Deschamps believes his side have a chance of progressing in the UEFA Champions League at Manchester United's expense. The teams meet on Tuesday night at Old Trafford with The Red Devils the favourites to advance in the competition following a goalless first leg at Stade Velodrome. United have been imperious on home soil in Europe, but Deschamps is not writing off his side's hopes of securing an all important away goal that could decide the tie. The French tactician has defended accusations that his team played for a goalless draw in the first leg although he admits he will be looking to keep things tight in Manchester.

Chance

"I would never send my players out to deliberately draw 0-0 at home," said Deschamps. "We wanted to score in the first leg. But if you don't concede, you have more chance of going through over two legs. "It's not for me to say whether it was a fair result, but it was a good result for United. If you get an away draw and don't concede, then 70 per cent of teams go through. "United know how to manage any situation. They are more obliged to go on the attack in the second leg. Certainly, conceding will complicate things for them, but they are familiar playing this situation." Deschamps hinted at another cagey affair on Tuesday, saying: "Whatever way United set up tonight, we will adapt to their style and try not to give anything away at the back. "If you look at the stats, United have not been beaten at home in 27 games and have conceded one goal in seven Champions League games this season. "It's a big ask for us and on paper you expect them to qualify. But it's not about statistics."
