Nice axe chairman

Nice have confirmed the departure of chairman Maurice Cohen.

Nice have confirmed the departure of chairman Maurice Cohen.

Cohen leaves Les Aiglons with the club just one point off the bottom of Ligue 1 following Wednesday's home defeat to Toulouse.

Vice-chairman Franck Guidicelli has replaced Cohen in the top job.

"The board of directors met (on Tuesday afternoon)," an announcement was made on the club's official website.

"Two shareholders, who own 57 per cent of the company, Marcel Governatori and Franck Guidicelli, have asked to replace the chairman.

"Starting from Thursday 23rd January, Nice will be under the direction of chairman Franck Guidicelli."

Meanwhile, Nice defender Rod Fanni has admitted interest in his services from two Ligue 1 clubs .

St Etienne and Marseille are known admirers, while Everton, Juventus and Celtic are thought to be keeping tabs.

But the 25-year-old does not believe he will be leaving Nice before the end of the season.

"Could I leave before the end of the season? I don't think it would be a good idea," Fanni told But.

"I know several teams are following me, but I let my agent manage that. I know about St Etienne's interest. It is an exciting challenge, but I haven't had any direct contact.

"L'OM have followed me for a long time. I was very close to signing for them in the past. Marseille always represents something special for a professional."
