Marseille will open talks with goalkeeper Fabien Barthez about a new deal with the club.
The Frenchman will be a free agent next summer and the club want to begin discussions to keep Barthez at the Stade Velodrome for a further two years.
However, Bathez's back-up Cedric Carrasso has impressed when called upon and the club's sporting director Jose Anigo has admitted that financial constraints could force a sale of one of the goalkeepers.
"We will open talks soon, but we know it will be difficult," Anigo told France Football.
"I think Fabien can still play at his best for two years but we may not be able to pay him what he wants."
