L'OM miss out on Milan ace

Marseille have failed with a bid to sign Milan winger Serginho on loan.

Marseille have failed with a bid to sign Milan winger Serginho on loan.

The French giants made an offer to take the Brazil international on loan for next season but were knocked back by the deposed Serie A champions.

L'OM chairman Pape Diouf confirmed the interest in Serginho as he feels he is the perfect recruit for the left flank.

"I asked Milan officials for the loan of Serginho," said Diouf.

"I am attracted by his ability to play on the left flank both in defensive and attacking positions but Milan refused the loan."

Diouf also confirmed his interest in Monaco striker, and Arsenal target, Emmanuel Adebayor, as well as Argentine playmaker Marcelo Gallardo.

He added: "I am attracted by Emmanuel Adebayor's profile and I would like to make him come to Marseille.

"But there is no contact so far.

"Marcelo Gallardo is not a fake rumour. Sporting director Jose Anigo thinks about him for building next season's team."

Gallardo's agent, though, has stressed the player intends to remain in his homeland with River Plate, although Marseille could finally bring in a new signing as their longstanding pursuit of Strasbourg striker Mamadou Niang is nearing a successful conclusion.

Diouf continued: "He told me about his wish to come to l'OM.

"The contacts with Strasbourg are continuing. The transfer should be settled early next week."
