St Etienne striker Bafetimbi Gomis has been named as Ligue 1's Player of the Month for January.
The 19-year-old took full advantage of the Frederic Piquionne transfer saga to come to the fore after the turn of the year, scoring twice for the Saints during the month.
With Piquionne's team status compromised before his loan move to Monaco, Gomis stepped up to the plate with important goals against Nancy and Lens.
The starlet has now been recognised after winning 73 per cent of the monthly vote, with Toulouse's Johan Elmander and Le Mans star Marko Basa trailing in his wake.
Gomis, who recently signed a new deal until 2010 at St Etienne, paid tribute to the club for showing faith in his ability.
"I can never thank enough all the club's educators and coaches that allowed me to improve," said Gomis.
