Rennes are lining up a move for Christophe Revault as they consider replacements for the in-demand Andreas Isaksson.
Isaksson is expected to leave Rennes before the close of the transfer window with several English sides chasing his signature.
Manchester City, Portsmouth and Charlton are all thought to be interested in Isaksson and Rennes are resigned to losing the Swedish international.
The Brittany club are now drawing up contingency plans for Isaksson's possible departure and Toulouse custodian Revault is among their targets.
Revault is well admired at Rennes having spent two seasons at the club between 1998 and 2000.
The possible switch for Revault could also pave the way for Toulouse to firm up their interest in Fabien Barthez.
Barthez revealed earlier this week he plans to play on and that he would be interested in a return to his first club.
Should Revault leave Rennes it would mean Barthez could fill the void left by his departure.
