Monaco have made enquiries for Barcelona midfielder Gerard.

The Spain international is out of contract at the end of the season but has yet to be offered new terms at Camp Nou.

Barca coach Frank Rijkaard recently admitted his admiration for the talents of the former Valencia ace but is unsure if he merits a contract extension.

Gerard has struggled with injuries this term and the delay in talks in Catalunya has prompted Monaco to make contact.

The Principality club's coach Didier Deschamps is keen to buttress his midfield in the summer and Gerard's availability on a free transfer is a tempting prospect.

Another free agent who has caught the eye of Deschamps is Rennes attacker Toifilou Maoulida.

He has not concurred on a new deal with Rennes and is being tracked by both Monaco and Toulouse.
