Paris St Germain striker Guillaume Hoarau is out until January after suffering knee ligament damage.
Hoarau, who was PSG's top scorer last season, came off the bench on Saturday against Toulouse after a spell on the sidelines with groin and thigh problems, only to fall awkwardly and injure himself six minutes before the final whistle.
A scan revealed that the 25-year-old will be out of action for five weeks, which means he will not be ready to return until after the French winter break.
PSG manager Antoine Kombouare said: "I am really sad for Guillaume. Now we have to support him.
"He has suffered several injuries recently and I am annoyed with myself for playing him.
"Hiring a striker means someone who isn't scoring in his current club. We have to find internal solutions to score goals."
PSG currently lie in ninth place in Ligue 1 and face a tough test when they travel to Marseille on Saturday.
