Bordeaux have announced that midfielder Wendel will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury.
The Brazilian picked up the injury in Saturday's 4-0 League Cup victory over second division side Vannes.
It has since been confirmed that the 27-year-old has suffered ligament damage to his right knee and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks.
The former Nacional ace hobbled off at the weekend after giving his side a three minute lead and will now miss the decisive title run-in.
Wendel has played 28 times for Bordeaux in the league this season and will be sorely missed by Laurent Blanc's men.
Bordeaux currently find themselves second in Ligue 1, five points behind leaders Marseille, but they do possess a game in hand on their rivals with six games still to play.
