Fernando Cavenaghi was shocked by the amount Bordeaux paid Spartak Moscow for his services.
The Argentinian striker moved the Stade Chaban-Delmas for a fee believed to be in the region of é¼7million (£4.6million).
Cavenaghi was confident of securing a move away from Russia, but was surprised Bordeaux turned out to be his destination.
"I wasn't worried about where I was going to play after Spartak because I received offers all the time," he said.
"But saying that, I was surprised Bordeaux bought me, it feels like a dream.
"I can't believe that so much was paid by Bordeaux. They paid more than Spartak paid to River [Plate].
"Maybe I didn't play as well in Russia as I did in River, but I haven't been a disaster.
"Now the only thing that I have in mind is to give my best form for Bordeaux and then who knows what will happen in the future."
Cavenaghi is aiming to impress Argentina coach Alfio Basile in order to win back his national team place.
He added: "I hope that in the future I will have a chance in the Argentinian national team.
"Maybe the fact that the French league is seen in South America more than the Russian league will give me more chance with the coach."
Cavenaghi hopes to make his debut for Bordeaux in the next couple of weeks.
