Lilian Laslandes has left Bordeaux to join Nice on a six-month deal.
The 35-year-old has found an agreement to leave Les Girondins and move to Nice on a free transfer.
Laslandes had been keen to remain with Bordeaux, but when an offer of a contract extension did not come, he opted for a move elsewhere.
"I explained to Nice that if I received a proposition from Bordeaux, I would favour it, but it didn't come," Laslandes said.
"The Bordeaux officials have been frank with me and I appreciate that. I am leaving as a free agent."
Nice are currently struggling at the bottom of Ligue 1 and Laslandes is determined to help the club out of the predicament.
He added: "The challenge will be difficult, but I hope to help Nice get out of the situation.
"I have not forgotten the club helped me when I was in a difficult period some years ago, however, I am no saviour."
Meanwhile, Bordeaux trio Carlos Henrique, Jean-Claude Darcheville and Edixon Perea are all staying at the Stade Chaban-Delmas after being linked with January departures.
Henrique had been close to a return to Flamengo but is now determined to stay and prove himself at Bordeaux.
Strikers Darcheville and Perea will both push for regular starting roles after snubbing moves away.
