Bordeaux defender Marc Planus is set to undergo surgery on his left knee on Thursday.
The latest news comes as a blow to Les Girondins. Planus was making his comeback after already missing two months of the season with a foot injury.
He picked up his latest problem during Saturday's clash against St Etienne and subsequent tests revealed that he has damaged a tendon which requires an operation.
It is not yet known how long he will be on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, Marouane Chamakh is also suffering with pain in his knee.
The Moroccan striker has been out of action since the game at Anfield.
The latest MRI scan revealed cartilage trouble but the frontman should not have to undergo surgery.
