Smicer back on track

Vladimir Smicer is set to return from injury before the end of the season.

Bordeaux midfielder Vladimir Smicer's World Cup injury fears have been allayed.

The Czech international has been sidelined since February with a thigh injury, but could be back in the side before the end of the season.

The former Liverpool man visited a specialist in Munich last week, and his recovery is believed to be promising.

Serge Dubeaux, Les Girondins' doctor is confident: "The lesion has started to heal. Smicer should start to run again this week, and play one or two games before the end of the season."

The 32-year-old had previously expressed his fears of missing the World Cup this summer, but it now seems likely that he will be able to join his Czech Republic team-mates in Germany.
