Ligue 1 round-up

Paris Saint Germain closed the gap on leaders Lyon with a 2-1 win over Nantes.

Paris Saint Germain closed the gap on leaders Lyon as they won 2-0 in an action-packed game against Nantes.

The game witnessed two red cards as Laurent Fournier's side moved to within one point of Lyon, although the reigning champions hold a game in hand over their rivals from the capital.

PSG's chances seemingly suffered a blow on 48 minutes when former West Ham midfielder Edouard Cisse received a red card for deliberate handball.

However, goals from Mario Yepes (67) and prolific hit-man Pauleta (75) saw them claim an unassailable lead before the visitors were also reduced to ten men when David Leray received his second booking with two minutes to go.

Bordeaux remain just one point behind PSG after they brought all three points away from Metz with a 1-0 win.

Brazilian midfielder Fernando Menegazzo scored the vital goal just after the break and rock-bottom Metz's woes deepened when Mahdi Meniri saw red for a second yellow card on 64 minutes.

St Etienne jumped four places up to fourth as they comfortably beat seventh placed Le Mans in a 3-0 victory.

The hosts took until the 42nd minute to get going when Loic Perrin handed them the initiative, and further strikes from Vincent Hognon (55) and David Hellebuyck (79) duly followed as they cruised to the three points.

Nancy, two points clear of the relegation zone before the start of play, moved into the top half of the table with a 2-0 win over Sochaux.

However, the visitors left it late to take the three points as Gaston Curbelo's 87th minute strike was complemented by Elie Kroupi's goal in injury time.
