Pauleta makes history with award

PAULETA made history in Le Championnat by being awarded the Players' Player of the Year for the second year running.

The prolific forward becomes the first player to ever retain the prize, after excelling once more for Bordeaux.

The Portugal international took the opportunity to reiterate his desire to see out the remaining year of his contract with Les Girondins.

"I still have one year of contract so there is no pressure on me to seek a new club," said Pauleta.

"Whether we are playing in the Champions League or not I will stay."

The 30-year-old fended off stiff competition from the likes of Marseille's Daniel van Buyten and Monaco duo Ludovic Giuly and Jerome Rothen.

This was due in no small part to another goal haul in excess of 20 - with the striker still chasing the top-scorer award going into the final two games of the season.
