BORDEAUX midfielder Laurent Batlles has signed for Le Championnat rivals Rennes.

The 27-year-old has signed a three-and-a-half year contract with Rennes, who have paid Bordeaux £1.4 million (‚é¼2.3 million) for his signature.

As he had his first training session with Christian Gourcouff's side, Batlles explained that Elie Baup's decision to bring Camel Meriem to Bordeaux had signalled the end of his stay at Parc Lescure.

"With the arrival of Camel Meriem in Bordeaux, my situation would become difficult," said Batlles.

"I preferred to agree to the Rennes transfer. It is an ambitious club even if they are having a difficult period.

"When we played against them on Saturday, I could notice there is quality in this team."

Rennes, meanwhile, will be without attacking midfielder Philippa Delaye, who will be out for about four weeks with a thigh strain.
