A LATE goal by Marama Vahirua gave Nantes a 1-0 home victory over bottom of the table Strasbourg.

The substitute made a darting run nine minutes from time to volley home a fine cross from Olivier Monterubbio.

Strasbourg battled hard and hit a post through Pegguy Luyindula, but they had to play for 40 minutes with 10 men after Fabrice Ehret was sent off.

The win sees Nantes move level on points with leaders Lille, while Strasbourg remain rooted to the bottom of Le Championnat.

Bordeaux maintained their title challenge, with a battling 1-0 home win over Auxerre.

Pedro Pauleta (pictured) was the man on target, latching onto a pass from Lilian Laslandes, following a poor clearance by visiting keeper Fabien Cool.

Les Girondins had to work hard for the win, though, as they had Laurent Batlles dismissed on 65 minutes for a second bookable offence.

Bordeaux held on to claim the win and move up to third place, while Auxerre`s hopes of a European place took a severe knock with the result.
