Dramatic clash sees Rennes miss out; Lille held by Bordeaux

Rennes suffered a setback against Lorient in Ligue 1 on Saturday, while Auxerre snatched a late win and leaders Lille were held. Rennes missed a crucial chance to leapfrog Lyon into a UEFA Champions League spot after suffering a 2-1 defeat at home to Lorient. The hosts took an early lead through Stephane Dalmat, but Rennes were then reduced to 10 men after Samuel Souprayen saw red for a second booking. France international striker Kevin Gameiro equalised early in the second half before on-loan Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin gave Lorient the points from close range in the 63rd minute. Rennes finished the game with nine men after centre-back Jean-Armel Kana-Biyik was shown a second yellow card for dissent with under five minutes remaining. Lille could only stretch their lead at the top of the table by a point after they were held 1-1 at home to Bordeaux in Saturday's late clash. Moussa Sow put the hosts ahead just after the break but Bordeaux defender Vujadin Savic was on target with the equaliser to ensure the visitors took a point. A superb stoppage-time free-kick from Dariusz Dudka brought Auxerre a much-needed 1-0 success at Toulouse. The clash looked destined for a goalless stalemate until the Polish midfielder hit home with a last-gasp winner to lift the visitors out of the Ligue 1 drop zone and into 14th place. Second-bottom Lens were less fortunate, however, after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Brest. Adil Hermach put the hosts ahead in the first half but they failed to preserve their lead as substitute Jonathan Ayite snatched Brest a share of the spoils. Caen dropped into the relegation zone after losing 3-2 in an entertaining encounter at Sochaux. First-half goals from Caen's Youssef El Arabi and home side defender Boukary Drame got things underway before a Modibo Maiga brace put Sochaux ahead late on. Romain Hamouma pulled one back for the visitors in the last minute but it was not enough to salvage the clash as Sochaux took the points. Goal difference is all that keeps Monaco above Caen after they fell 3-2 at Nice, despite a second-half penalty from Chu-Young Park. Dimitri Payet claimed a brace for Saint-Etienne, marking his 11th and 12th league goals of the season, in a 2-1 victory at home to Nancy that moved Les Verts into sixth place.
